The Baltimore Consort
The Board of Directors of the Fine Arts Fiesta is proud to honor their long-time and loyal volunteers and friends of the community with a concert by the Baltimore Consort, Saturday, May 7 at the Luzerne County Courthouse at 8 p.m. A reception will precede the concert beginning at 6 p.m.
Founded in 1980 to perform the instrumental music of Shakespeare’s time, the Baltimore Consort has explored English, Scottish and French popular music, focusing on the relationship between folk and art, song and dance. The six-member musical group tours throughout the United States and abroad. A recent review in The Scotsman, Scotland’s national newspaper, appears to say it all:
They brought their lutes and viols to Glasgow, along with bewitching soprano, Custer LaRue...It ought to be offensive that the most exhilarating Scots music performance to turn up on our native soil this year should come from America...They bring to this music researched by them with awesome thoroughness, a mix of jazz and joy, of improvisation and uncanny insight...
Please join us for refreshments, camaraderie and the beguiling music of the Baltimore Consort.
